On our continued journey west, we spent our first night in Texas at the Welcome Center/Rest Area.

We were at the RV park for 3 days, and when there was a break in the weather, we took off for New Mexico. Spent a night in the Carlsbad Walmart parking lot, stocked up on groceries and etc., and left the next morning for Alamogardo, NM. There we stayed in the Oliver Lee State Park.

Just a few miles from the campground is the White Sands National Monument. I don’t quite get how sand dunes can be a monument, but... ??  At any rate, we had seen the white sand, which looked like snow!, from the road as we came over the pass. Once we realized what we had been seeing, of course we were very interested in seeing it close up! 

Unfortunately…  NOT

We are currently in the Gila National Forest in New Mexico and will be here until the end of the month. Sometimes you just have to stop and wait for the next payday!  Also, waiting for weather. It’s been getting down to freezing at night here, but just barely and we haven’t had any problems. The campground we’re at (Mesa) is listed at 6,100’, so we can expect the coolness. So far has been in the low 70‘s during the day, and beautiful. We have no connection of any kind here, but we will go to town every few days and can catch up then, and do the wash and get a few groceries. If you need us, call and leave a message, or email, and we’ll get it as soon as we come out of the mountains.

And now the long awaited Everglades pictures… well at least long awaited for a few J  Most interesting, unusual, not what I expected, and fascinating!

There were alligators to be seen…

But what there was the most of were birds! Beautiful and unusual birds. (More alligators later.)

We visited the Alligator Farm, where I got lots of alligator pix and other plants and wildlife! J

This would be what we saw in the park. I don’t remember if technically mountain lion and panther are the same animal. But, this is what the signs were for and what we saw J  I was pleased to hear that this healthy guy didn’t stay in this cage (it was quite HUGE) all the time. They had an entirely separate and private habitat for him when he wasn’t out here on display.
